Eleven Mile Canyon runs cold and clear out of Eleven Mile Reservoir and stays that way year-round — the reservoir depth keeps water temperatures stable, which means fish are active in every season and the midge fishery never really turns off.
The canyon character shifts as you move downstream. The upper section near the dam is wide and flat — prime dry-fly and technical nymph water. The mid-canyon tightens into pocket water and plunge pools with undercut banks holding aggressive brown trout. The lower canyon opens again as it approaches Lake George.
Streamer fishing is the standout feature of Eleven Mile compared to Cheesman or Deckers. The large browns in the deep lower-canyon slots will eat articulated patterns throughout the year. Swing and strip, not dead-drift. Morning and evening, overcast days.
County Road 96 parallels the river for most of the productive water — you can scout from the car and pick your beat. This makes Eleven Mile one of the most accessible canyons on the South Platte system.
