The Trumbull section is the stretch of South Platte between the Wigwam Club private water boundary (the downstream edge of Cheesman Canyon) and the town of Deckers. It’s often grouped with Deckers in conversation, but it has its own character — wider than the canyon, more riffled, and considerably more accessible.
Roadside access along South Platte River Road means you can drive slowly, spot fish, and pick your beat before you gear up. The water is more forgiving than Cheesman — the broken riffles hide leader drag and fish that are less technically educated. A solid section for anglers stepping up from easier water without jumping straight into canyon-level difficulty.
The USGS gauge at Deckers (06701500) is the closest real-time reference for this section — it’s just downstream on the same water, so it reflects actual fishing conditions well. When this gauge reads 100–200 CFS, the Trumbull section fishes well throughout.
PMD and caddis hatches are strong here in late spring and summer. Midges anchor the winter months. The wide riffles produce good caddis evenings from May through August.
